Oregon Coast Thanksgiving

Late November on the Central Coast
Well I guess I'm one of those people who photograph their food. Thanksgiving dinner, round #1. A break in the weather gives us a chance to walk off some calories at Cape Kiwanda. Stormy Friday: Head to the glass studio in Taft and watch molten glass get manipulated. A young harbour seal takes a particular interest in Yvonne at Yaquina Head. The Yaquina Head lighthouse is shrouded while getting a much needed clean up and paint job. Agate Beach, with a few sun breaks opening up.
F/V Luna in Yaquina Bay. We eat salmon caught with this boat at the owner's restaurant down in Yachats, OR: Luna Sea Seafood. They look peaceful and content, but they're noisey, mean, and stinky. Eyes made for finding meals in the dark Pacific. Yaquina Bay Bridge near the 4:38 PM sunset. Under the art deco style bridge, a trademark design found all along the Oregon Coast. Sunset. Very rare sight in late November.
The Heceta Head light is still glimmering after its recent restoration. An amazing sunny Sunday. This photo was not retouched in any fashion. Curtains over the Fresnel lens protect it from the sun. A detailed view. Female Peregrin Falcon, pearched just where we saw her (?) last spring. A few whales were spotted off Heceta Head, but I kept missing the better views since they surface so briefly. Yvonne with the Heceta Head light all to herself. The most photographed scene along the entire coast...
Hmmm, what's all that barking noise and stinky smell below us on the turnout? That's a LOT of California sea lions. (Strangely, the Sea Lion Caves next door was devoid of them.) So many that multiple rafts of sea lions were floating off the rocks. This is how they socialize and protect themselves in the open ocean. Flippers up for cooling. Tide-pooling at the Neptune Beach turnout. Many green anenome were found at the low tide. Ochre Sea Stars, Green Anenome, barnicles, and muscles.
Yvonne with a last view before we head to our favorite salmon lunch. Intense offshore wind in Yachats stopped the waves dead. Moon shot from our beach house in Depoe Bay. Amazingly clear afternoon; one of the brightest days we've ever had. Two sunsets on the last two days of November. Amazing. Back to reality...
